The Johnson Family Reunion

Just a couple pictures of Owen enjoying the Johnson Family Reunion this weekend.

No More Pictures!

I'm hoping that this face from Owen just means "No more pictures" instead of, "I don't like the Hawkeyes".

Owen loves bath time, but in true Owen fashion, he wouldn't display his happiness for the camera.  He likes taking pictures about as much as his Dad does.

Last week Owen spent a few hours at Amy's house.  It was good practice for how he will spend his time when I go back to work next week.  While I was nervous that he would be his usual fussy self, he did great!  When I came to pick him up I saw him be adored by three little girls.  He was LOVING IT!  I even left for another hour because he was having such a good time.  I'm feeling very confident that he will do well at daycare.

He finally fits into his Hawkeye gear!  Now he's ready for football season.  41 days to go...

Family Time

Last week Owen and I spent 4 days in Minnesota with Aunt Sarah, Uncle Ben and cousins Nathan, Emma, Alex and Josh.  While the drive to get there was pretty challenging for the little guy, he couldn't have been happier once we arrived.  We stayed very busy.  Owen got a lot of attention from his cousins--Emma even volunteered to help take care of him.  She was better at managing Owen than some adults!  She has lots of practice with her brothers Alex and Josh.

Emma and Nathan

On Thursday we spent the day with Emma and Nathan at the Mall of America.  Most of our time was spent at Nickelodeon Universe--the amusement park in the center of the mall.  Owen got a little overwhelmed from time to time, so we were able to take some time to just walk around the mall too.

Owen's "I'm ready to go home" face

While we were in Minnesota, Owen slept better than ever.  I was hoping that this was a permanent change--only getting up once or twice at night.  Unfortunately he went right back to his old schedule as soon as we got home.  We're still getting up every 3 hours or so.

Owen and I only have another week and a half together before I go back to work.  While I can't imagine being away from the little guy for 8 hours a day, I know that he will be in great hands.  Owen will be spending 5 weeks with Amy, Kaden and Meghan before his permanent daycare is available.

8 Week Check Up

Owen had his 8 week check up this week.  All news from the doctor was good.  He is weighing in at 12.8 lbs, which is the 75th percentile for his age.  That's a great improvement from the 10th percentile we started at 6 weeks ago.  The doctor was happy that the Prevacid seems to be working for his acid reflux.  It sounds like we will stick with that for a few more months.  Owen seems to be right on track...we're just waiting for a social smile and for him to start grabbing at things.  The dr thinks this should happen anytime--in the next few weeks.

The challenging part of the appointment was his first round of immunizations.  I wasn't really prepared to have to hold his arms down while two nurses stuck him with 3 shots.  When he looked at me it was as if he was saying "How could you mom!".  He calmed down after a few minutes and I thought the hard part was over.  Unfortunately Owen's little leg swelled up a few hours later and he screamed and screamed.  After a dose of Tylenol, a cool cloth, and lots of cuddling, and tears from both of us, he finally calmed down after about 90 minutes.  I'm not sure who it was harder on--him or me.  It's just heart breaking to see your baby in pain.

Owen and I are excited to spend his 9th week with Aunt Sarah, Uncle Ben, and cousins Nathan, Emma, Alex and Josh.  We will be heading up to Minnesota in the middle of the week to visit for a few days.  With only 3 weeks left of my maternity leave, we want to make the most of our time.

Below are a few pictures of Owen trying out the Bumbo seat.  He is almost holding his head up enough to sit in it.  He still needs a little help.  There are also a couple shots after his bath.  He just loves bath time!

Watching golf already!

The best 15$ I ever spent!  He loves his activity mat!

Road Trip

This weekend we took a roadtrip to Sioux Falls to introduce Owen to his aunt Molly, uncle Scott and cousin Brady.  Grandma and Grandpa Beck met us there too.  It was a great weekend. Owen really seemed to enjoy spending time with family--especially his cousin Brady.

Brady helped with Owen a lot!  He helped to feed him, get him to sleep and even took him for a long walk (up and down the sidewalk)

Owen did very well on the long car trip.  We're looking forward to meeting 4 more cousins (Nathan, Emma, Alex and Josh) and Aunt Sarah and Uncle Ben next week when we travel to Minnesota.
